D.R.I.C. DAY

Dear Soul Sister,

As December wraps its chilly arms around us, it doesn’t just bring the sparkle of holiday lights; it brings moments that make us pause, reflect, and feel all the feels. For many of us, December isn’t just about joy and celebration; it’s also a reminder of lessons learned, losses endured, and the strength we’ve found along the way.

For me, this season has always been a mix of bittersweet memories. It reminds me of saying goodbye to toxic relationships I clung to for too long, grieving what I thought I couldn’t live without. It takes me back to the pain of betrayal, the heartbreak of losing a child during what’s supposed to be a season of joy, and the tender, final Christmases shared with loved ones who are no longer here.

While these moments hurt like hell, they also planted seeds for my greatest growth. December has taught me that it’s a time of endings, yes, but also of beautiful new beginnings.

Walking away from those all-consuming, unhealthy relationships? It wasn’t easy, but it was necessary. It forced me to face the parts of myself that had allowed those cycles, to heal wounds I didn’t even know were there. I learned to love myself fiercely, to show up for myself unapologetically. My grandma’s words still ring in my head: “Eat the chicken and spit out the bones.” In other words, take the good, learn the lessons, and leave the rest behind.

Every “last” I’ve experienced; the last hug, the last laugh, the last goodbye; has taught me something priceless. It’s shown me the importance of presence, of cherishing the here and now, of loving fully and freely, even when the next moment isn’t promised. I learned to cherish the love that was already around me, instead of seeking validation in unhealthy places. It taught me the value of giving myself grace and the importance of sisterhood.

December, with all its ups and downs, mirrors the journey of Sagittarius and Capricorn. Sagittarius, full of hope and adventure, reminds us to embrace life’s lessons and dream big. Capricorn, grounded and determined, encourages us to build something lasting from those lessons. December is a bridge from the fire of resilience to the foundation of strength. For me, and maybe for you too, December is a rollercoaster from the depths of grief to the heights of gratitude and self growth.

Today, is my dear sister-friend Dric's birthday and I’m holding space for her. Her life was tragically cut short by domestic violence and my heart feels heavy with her absence. Yet, in her true Sagittarius spirit, she brought into my life a gift of optimism, expansive thinking, and boundless joy. Our friendship was one of those rare, unfiltered connections where every conversation was a journey in itself, exploring depths that most keep hidden within the pages of their diaries. I celebrate not just her life, but the lessons her friendship taught me ; the power of sisterhood on this journey of womanhood.  Sisterhood; the way it holds us, lifts us, and keeps us going, even in our darkest moments; is one of the most beautiful experiences.

So, Soul Sis, if you’re navigating your own December heartbreaks, I want you to know this: you’re not alone. I’m here; holding space for you, sending you love and warmth, and cheering you on. May you find, or cherish, a sisterhood as powerful as the one I had with Dric. These bonds aren’t just about shared laughs and tears; they’re about growing together, finding strength in one another, and building a light that no darkness can dim.

This December, let’s carry the lessons we’ve learned; about love, resilience, and transformation; and turn them into something beautiful. Every ending, no matter how painful, is a doorway to a new beginning. Let’s honor our pasts while stepping boldly into the future, fueled by hope and the strength we’ve gained along the way. This December, I invite you to join me in a journey of transformation; from pain to empowerment, from loss to profound gratitude.

As we step into the holiday season and the new year, let’s do so with determination, hope, and a heart full of love. Love? Yes, LOVE; for ourselves and for the sisterhood that binds us. Let's turn our 'lasts' into 'firsts', our trials into triumphs, and step into a future bright with possibilities. Together, let's step into the new year empowered, determined, and filled with hope. We are resilient, we are strong, and we are ever-evolving!
